Silver Cross GP advice we should book our first gynecologist visit on week 8

I didn't do a mad search for gynae since I'm aware of the famous obstetrician at Kovan after staying in Hougang for the past 24 years. my cousin's wife also delivered her baby with Dr Phua and provide good feedback of him. do a random search on google and you will see many forum review on him and his reasonable rates. most importantly its conveniently located near my parents place which is plus point considering the monthly and even bi-weekly visit nearer to delivery.

• He only deliver at Thomson Medical or Mount Alvernia

And so we book our first appointment to be on 18 Dec 15 (Fri). However, on 11 Dec 15 while working in office got a bad stomach cramp after lunch. Its so bad that it feels like menstrual cramp & diarrhea all at the same time. As a first-time mum, totally dunno what is happening and straight away make a call to the clinic to ask if I can do a walk-in visit. Did a mad dash visit and waited a hour as walk-in. Dr Phua did an Ultrasound Viability Scan to check for gestational sac, yolk sac and embryo to determine if the pregnancy is success.

He also found a cyst in my right ovary during the scan, but he was very assuring and say its still small, common during pregnancy and it should go away after delivery. In the meantime will just monitor during each visit.

During consultation he ask about the first day of my last period to determine my Estimate Due Date (EDD), my lifestyle habits (whether if I smoke) and also family medical history. And also advice the difference between the 2 types of fetal screening tests - OSCAR vs HARMONY, which I can decide during the next visit.

Thankfully all is fine with baby and he concluded I probably ate something dirty during lunch. I was prescribe to start with 5mg Folic Acid, 1 pill a day to prevent birth defects of your baby's brain and spinal cord. And also Buscopan & Lomotil for my stomachache.

First visit experience with Dr Phua - very patient to answer my questions, soft-spoken and fatherly doctor probably in his late 40s. cost wise is definitely reasonable compared to those branded gynae. clinic is located in the neighborhood area, with old-school style deco, enclosed air-conditioned clinic with row of seats for waiting patients. appointment seem full since i waited 1 hr as walk-in on a week day and nurses is always busy with the ringing phone.
